What is Domain Rating?
Domain Rating (DR) measures the strength of a website's backlink profile compared to every other site in Ahrefs' index, on a 0 to 100 scale. It is logarithmic, so climbing from 60 to 70 takes far more than going from 10 to 20. DR is not a Google ranking factor, but it is a useful shorthand for how much link authority a site has built.
What counts as a good DR?
- 0 to 20 — new or low authority, common for fresh sites
- 20 to 40 — building, with real links starting to land
- 40 to 60 — established and competitive in most niches
- 60 to 80 — strong authority
- 80 to 100 — elite, the major players
How do you raise your DR?
DR goes up when relevant, higher-authority sites link to you. The durable way to earn those links is to be genuinely useful and discoverable: ship real things, get listed in the right places, and let the links compound over time. Listing your product in a quality directory is one of the simplest first links to earn.
